A/N: Written all in one sitting because Nemmie wanted something
sweet and happy and Furuba. And Kyo volunteered to give the whole
cheering up thing a shot. Read while listening to Filter's "Take a
Picture" if you can...if only because that's what I was writing
to/towards at the time. ~_^
-----*------*------*-----
Kyo didn't know what to call how he felt. Comfortable,
certainly, the summer sun warm on his face where it filtered through
the leaves of the trees. He didn't even mind the roots and acorns
under his back - between the grass and the blanket, it wasn't nearly
as bad as it could have been. He had nothing to do, nowhere else he
needed to be anytime before dusk. No school for an entire month and
no Shigure for at least a week. No Yuki, either. Just him, the sun,
the lake, and privacy. And Hatsuharu.
Coming up here for summer vacation had been the ox's idea, but
Kyo had been more than happy to go along with it. They couldn't have
the house to themselves for the whole month, but the first week was
theirs. Hatori had promised, and the dragon was always true to his
word.
Fingers combed through his hair and he smiled, eyes still closed
as he leaned into the caress. They'd already had two days of privacy
and all they'd managed to do was loaf about together. A couple walks
to quiet places for picnic lunches and then hours of just . . . being
together. Sometimes they talked, most of the time they didn't. Who
needed words to clutter up such a beautiful afternoon anyway?
"Are you sure this is enough?"
It was the same question Haru asked at least once a day, had
been asking on a regular basis since they first started seeing each
other secretly. Not much of a secret anymore, but somehow they'd
avoided too many hassels. Which was kind of nice. Kyo had enough
worries in his life with the ticking down clock in the back of his
head.
"Yeah, Haru, I'm sure. I may be greedy, but as long as I have
you here, well, that's good enough," he said with a half shrug, barely
opening his eyes to look up at his younger cousin. The way those grey
eyes were frowning down at him, he felt compelled to do something to
reassure the teen. Which was, he told himself, the only reason he was
suddenly reaching up and wrapping a hand around the back of Haru's
neck, then pulling his cousin down into a slow kiss. And why he
didn't release the ox, even after their lips parted.
"What was that for?" Haru asked quietly, a smirk threatening at
the corner of his mouth.
"Eh, who knows. Guess I thought you looked like you needed it."
"Fair enough. So . . . you gonna let me go, kitten?"
"How why the hell would I do a damn fool thing like that, ya
stupid ox?" Kyo growled, pulling Haru into another kiss. Maybe he had
words for these feelings after all.
