Disclaimer: This is for the entire story: I don’t own Fruits Basket.
A/N: This is my brother’s idea so the story is for and dedicated to him. My
baby brother has the best ideas sometimes. This may get kind of angsty but I’m
not sure. No beta for this so there will most likely be mistakes but if you feel
like you wanna beta this then leave it in a review or contact me by e-mail and
I’d be more than happy to have you beta this since I’m an idiot when it
comes to comas and the like (meaning you won’t see them in my fic most
likely). Haru/Kyo; spoilers maybe.

CHAPTER 1
---------------------
Hatsuharu Sohma groaned as he stretched out on Shigure’s couch his feet
barely missing the neko’s head who was by now fed up with the boy.
“Dammit you stupid cow! Watch it will ya!”
The dual haired teen grinned sheepishly and shrugged falling back onto the
furniture and picked up the remote resuming his channel surfing.
Growling Kyo jumped up from his spot on the floor earning him a look from Haru.
His plan was to rip the remote from Haru’s hand. Launching himself onto the
couch and Haru he grappled for the remote until he was flipped on his back and
face to face with Black Haru.
‘Shit I forgot! Ever since that damn Yuki and Tohru got together Black Haru
has been coming out over the most stupid things!’
“Now kitty cat what was all that about?”
“Bastard get off of me!”
“You were the one who jumped on me so I don’t want to hear it kitty.”
Leaning down Haru nuzzled Kyo’s neck.
“Haru you bastard get off of me! I won’t be some damned replacement for
Yuki! I know you’re still hurting over him and I won’t be used just because
you can’t have that damned rat!”
Haru stared unseeing at Kyo remembering Yuki and Tohru’s reactions to telling
them they were dating. They’d been ecstatic...so happy so of course he was
unable to go off on them. Yeah he felt betrayed and crushed but also he felt bad
about not even thinking of Kyo’s reaction since Tohru seemed to share the same
feelings for the cat. He’d been so caught up in his own self pity that no one
else crossed his mind until he had spotted Kyo outside in the forest as it had
stormed five days later. He was training furiously venting his frustration out
on the trees and ground. He was bloody and battered but continued on as just
like him it seemed as the world had collapsed around them. Their idealistic
dreams had been crushed in a matter of moments but what made it worse was when
they both had come to the conclusion that everyone in the house knew before them
and that being so they had to have been dating for awhile.
The thought did cross his mind of finding a replacement for Yuki but he knew it
would be unfair to the person who was stuck with him. He knew that even if he
wished he would be unable to find someone that would be able to take Yuki’s
place. Seeing Kyo in the same condition as he was made him rethink his emotions
and what he intended to do from now on. He couldn’t just live his life waiting
for someone who would never return the feeling and so with all these thoughts
and emotions raining down on him he wasn’t prepared and Black Haru started to
appear more and more frequently and it seemed Kyo was the root of his problems.
Just being around the moody and depressed neko whose temper was now worse than
ever would set him off and Black Haru had taken a particular liking to the cat
gaining him a disliking for Kagura.
He knew it was wrong to deal with this situation the way he was but he was still
in a stage of disbelief. He and Kyo got into fights more often and he had begun
to avoid Yuki altogether not wanting to see his face. He was hurt when he found
out the he and Kyo were the last ones to find out and even so if there may have
been a reason he would have dealt with it easier had they been told with the
rest of the Sohma’s. Now whenever Yuki or Tohru was near there was this sense
of unease and...something else like they were hiding something greater from
them. He knew that he would be unable to trust Yuki or Tohru again and he was
okay with that seeing as he wanted to be as far away from the two as possible.
Tohru and Yuki weren’t shy about they’re feelings towards one another as one
would have thought. Yuki wanted to show it to get it through the other guy’s
heads that Tohru was his and his alone. Tohru was just happy to find a new type
of love and affection other than the normal day affection and was proud to call
herself ‘Yuki’s girl’. They tried to make sure that Kyo and Haru weren’t
around before they did anything but with Kyo living there and Haru there daily
it was hard and there was an occasional slip up where Kyo would walk out his
eyes shinning with rage heading to the forest to vent or to find Haru and fight
him. Haru would go Black and search out Kyo for either a fight or teasing or
just head back to Hatori’s and hole up there till he was sick of that place.
Kyo turned his head away as Haru’s grip on his chin slacked it was easy for
him to see what Haru was thinking about and that was one thing he was trying to
forget. Like Haru he congratulated them but he was furious inside he at least
thought Tohru felt the same way as she had shown in now and then. Being one of
the last people to know about it also made him snap and he felt like an outsider
where he once lived. Training in the woods had helped him a little with his need
to vent and if it didn’t all he had to do was go find Black Haru since it
seemed that White Haru was hardly ever shown nowadays. He felt like an idiot for
not noticing it before but all the shy glances and ‘accidental’ touches
should have set off warning bells in his head that something was up. But no he
had to be an idiot and see things that were never and will never be there.
He had acted like a lovesick dog with all his blushing and stupid remarks to
Tohru and she seemed to really enjoy his company; she was the first person who
wanted to be his friend and she even stuck by him when Kazuma had taken his
beads forcing him to transform. She had stuck by him through that and had held
him tenderly like a lover crying for him as he had changed back and he was able
to hold her if only for a moment.
He was gone from the hours mostly at least until late at night as it worried
Tohru and pissed off Yuki if Tohru was worried. He didn’t know why he still
did things for Tohru maybe it was a lingering hope that she may one day love him
but once thought allowed it left him with a bitter taste in his mouth. Tohru
still worried over him and Haru unknowing of their bitter feelings and emotions
that were boiling inside them. Kyo had more than once recently tried to think of
reason why he was still alive. What he had to live for. But he kept coming up
with the same thing. Nothing. The only thing he once had to live for had
betrayed and lied to him. There was Kagura who said she loved him and accepted
him but he didn’t return those same feelings for her. Her advances had become
worse now that Tohru was out of the picture and that was another reason Kyo was
away from the house all the time.
Though what pissed him off the most was that Black Haru was becoming more and
more problem some. He had begun bothering him all the time bugging him even when
he tried to be in the forest and get away from the other Sohma’s if he was
lucky it was White Haru who came and found him and in the rare occurrences that
it was the two just sat far apart but close enough for their taste just enjoying
the weather and sometimes engaging in a rare conversation. Most of the time it
was Black Haru trying to fight him or coming to try and hit on him which had him
confused and pissed not wanting to be used as some plaything or one night stand.
When he voiced as much at each occurrence all that happened was that Black Haru
got a thoughtful look on his face and they fought forgetting that his advances
ever happened.
One thing he was unable to forget was when he walked in on Tohru and Yuki
kissing being careful not to get to close for an embrace to be considered. It
was then that the gravity of everything sunk in and he felt his well defined
walls begin to crumble and his world cave in. Shigure had told him once that his
eyes seemed duller and that the fight had left his body. That he walked around
like a zombie his eyes haunted and only coming to life when he was fighting or
training. He knew Haru’s eyes were the same; the same dull shade of grey as
his crimson; the same haunted look that only disappeared during an upcoming
battle; the same hopeless look that showed volumes that were never spoken.
Hatori had thought they were sick checking them over knowing he’d find nothing
wrong. He knew the problem choosing not to tell the others not needing to make
it harder on the two. He hadn’t thought that Haru was still this deeply in
love with Yuki and Kyo with Tohru.
Kazuma had finally offered him a place to stay but the Yuki’s words the day of
his transformation of being sick and tired of running away rang in his ears
making him decline and something of the same orientation making Haru come to
Shigure’s house each day.
Their eyes by a week were no longer as dull but Kyo’s had taken on a hard edge
gleaming with something other than the once familiar fire of his. Haru’s were
slightly better but he seemed to be even more stoic not even looking at Yuki or
Tohru. Haru had begun to stay over sometimes having to share a room with Kyo
much to the neko’s annoyance.
“Kyo...”
His crimson eyes lifted from their spot on the floor to look into the eyes of
Black Haru who was still smirking even though his eyes were still clouded with
thought.
“We’re idiots aren’t we.”
Being a rhetorical question and a statement there was no need for his answer
knowing exactly what he was talking about. They had spent so much time on ones
who would never return that feeling and even though they knew it all along just
refusing to acknowledge it. Now they stood fighting one another over and over
for no reason other than having no other way to rant or feel alive.
Black Haru grinned at him chuckling darkly at the look on his neko’s face. He
knew that if he wanted to get over Yuki truly get over him then he’d have to
go after another that he loved...just not as strongly as he had Yuki. Truthfully
for Black Haru the kitty was so much more fun as unlike Yuki he wore his
emotions on his sleeve and was angered by the simplest things always having some
type of fight left in him.
“AH! Get off of me you pervert!”
“Ah now kitty why are you so mean? We could have so much fun.”
“Haru!”
Flipping Haru off of him and onto the floor he smacked his head on the ground
and came right back up blinking.
“What happened?”
“Can’t you keep that pervert Black Haru on a leash!? I’m sick of being
treated as rebound dammit!”
Once more he just grinned at Kyo.
‘Maybe it’s just best yet that my kitty doesn’t know that he isn’t just
rebound anymore. He’d probably kill me anyway and still think he is rebound.
But that’s Kyo for you and now he most likely truly believes he can’t be
loved or really want to fall in love. But I promise you kitty that I will have
you.’

A/N: This is my first Fruits Basket fic so it’ll probably be bad starting off
until I grasp the writing concepts of the anime and I don’t really like how
this chapter turned out but I couldn’t seem to fix it. This will get limey
later on! (or if I get up my courage to try a lemon) This isn't my first fanfic
only my first one in this particular anime.
