Run Away, Run Away

Disclaimer: I don't own Fruits Basket, but I sure wish I did.

A/N: Hey all! Sorry for the wait there...I’m currently bogged down with homework and such. Also, I realized that when I change scenes, especially in my other fic where I tend to do that a lot, the dashes don’t come up anymore. Neither does double spacing. So I’m putting the & signs, hopefully will keep it so that these still work :S

CHAPTER 6

----------------------------

“Please, don’t turn us in,” Yuki pleaded.

Dark solemn eyes seemed to be laughing at the two battered teens, and they gazed coldly at them.

“Well...”

“Well...” Hiro Sohma stood at the sidewalk, smirking and looking very pleased with himself, mixed with a bored look. It was an odd combination. “Why shouldn’t I? Is there some sort of reason why I have to listen to you? Don’t say it Kyo.”

Kyo opened and shut his mouth, effectively cut off by the young boy standing in front of them. He could merely glare at him.

“Hiro...please. It’s all we’re asking, just walk away,” Yuki said shakily. He could barely keep himself awake now, and was leaning heavily on Kyo. For a few minutes Hiro was silent, a calculating look on his face. The only sounds were the occasional car that passed them by, or a bird chirping and fluttering its wings. Kyo envied the birds, they could fly away whenever they pleased, and they weren’t trapped like he was.

A light breeze floated by and ruffled Hiro’s hair, and finally he spoke.

“You know, I can’t see why I should.” He crossed his arms defiantly.

Kyo got an angry look on his face, and his fists clenched. “Haven’t you ever wanted to be free, Hiro? Haven’t you ever wanted to leave,” he yelled, “If we escape, we’ll be free from Akito, for the rest of our lives! Just let us go, we’ve worked so hard for it!”

“See, that’s the thing, Kyo. You’re so selfish.”

Kyo looked thoroughly confused. “What are you rambling about Hiro,” he said slowly.

“I’m talking about me, I’m talking about Kisa, and I’m talking about all the zodiac members! You think you’re the only one who’s ever wanted to leave! I think about it all the time! It’s not fair that—“he stopped to take a gulp of air and wipe the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes, “that you get to leave while I’m stuck here, while Kisa’s in danger every day from Akito because of me!”

Yuki could only stare at Hiro with sorrowful eyes, knowing his pain, how he felt because he couldn’t protect his loved ones. Kyo, on the other hand, wasn’t so understanding, and was about to voice that not-so understanding opinion, when a small voice broke their angry confrontation.

“Hiro? What are you doing out here?” Kisa walked up and latched onto Hiro sleeve, looking at him questioningly. All the anger and resentment slid from Hiro’s face, and he looked a little ashamed.

“Nothing, Kisa...” He looked away from her. Kisa looked over, straight into Kyo’s eyes, and smiled.

“Yuki, Kyo? Everyone’s looking for you...” Her look turned to a worried one, “why are you standing here?” She turned back to Hiro, “you weren’t going to turn them in, were you Hiro-kun?”

Hiro didn’t answer, and instead faced Kyo and Yuki again, a thoughtful look on his face.

“Fine,” he finally said, “I’ll let you go, with me, I have a few requirements.”

Kyo and Yuki looked at each other and shrugged. Yuki insisted he would be fine for a little longer, and they followed Hiro and Kisa to a small park. The four sat down on a bench, and Hiro began to talk.

“Here’s what I want, so listen carefully you two,” Hiro said. Kyo frowned but kept quiet. Yuki just tried to keep from passing out, hoping that Kyo would be ok handling everything on his own.

“Take me and Kisa with you.”

“What?”

“What!”

“...What?”

Yuki, Kyo and Kisa collectively gasped, each staring at Hiro in trepidation.

“We can’t do that!’ Kyo said finally.

“What about sissy,” Kisa said softly, “She’ll miss me.”

Yuki opened his mouth to speak, but instead began coughing.

“Yuki, are you okay? Yuki! Yuki!” Kyo put his arms around the silver haired boy in a desperate attempt to stop the coughing and shivers that racked Yuki’s body. Yuki began to cough up blood, and Kyo got frantic.

“Ok, fine. Kisa, Hiro, hurry up and come with us! We have to get Yuki to a hospital!”

“So you’ll take us with you?” Hiro asked.

“Yes, yes! Now get your ass in gear wise-guy!”

The four rushed out of the park and down the road and were just approaching a bus station when Hiro thought of something important.

“Stop!” he yelled. Kyo and Kisa froze on the spot. Yuki was barely conscious in Kyo’s arms.

“We can’t go to this hospital, Akito has people waiting for us there! We have to get out of this city now... but we can’t by bus, Akito has people placed at all the stations too...”

“How do you know all this,” Kyo asked suspiciously, wary of a trap.

“I overheard Akito and Kureno planning where to wait for you guys, that’s how I knew they wouldn’t be anywhere near where I was.”

Kyo still looked disbelieving, but grudgingly decided to believe him.

/He’s a punk, but he’s not a bad person. And he really cares for Kisa...he wouldn’t do this to her. I guess he’s telling the truth. Might as well believe him, there’s no other choice./

“Ok, so what do you suggest then,” Kyo asked, sounding tired.

“Taxi,” Hiro called, hailing one. He didn’t bother to answer Kyo’s question. The four got in, and ignored the weird look from the driver.

“Where to then all-knowing one,” Kyo said to Hiro sarcastically.

From that point on, Hiro took over. He told the driver where to go, and even negotiated a flat rate. Kyo was too busy to notice though; he was holding a tissue under Yuki’s chin and hovering over him protectively, hissing at the driver if he dared to look back at them. Only Kisa sat quietly, observing everything around her, as she had gotten quite good at while she was mute. She sat in-between Kyo and Hiro, her hands in her lap and her eyes darting around, suddenly alert.

“Hiro,” she said quietly. He looked at her, instantly worried.

“Yeah?”

“I--” she paused, looking out the back window sadly. “Nothing.”

Hiro turned his attention back to giving the driver directions and keeping a close watch out for Akito. Kisa sighed and looked to Kyo and Yuki. Yuki seemed to have calmed a bit, but he still looked bad. Kyo was pale with fear, but didn’t let it show.

The driver pulled up to a small hospital about a half hour later. Hiro paid him the fee, plus a generous tip to keep quiet about seeing them. Kyo didn’t stick around to watch, he rushed Yuki in through the doors as soon as the cab driver stopped. Kisa followed after them as quickly as her small legs could.

“Please, this is an emergency! He needs help! You guys can’t make him wait any longer,” Kyo shouted, pleading with the nurse at the front desk. Yuki was barely conscious, trying to keep awake. But the pain kept trying to pull him into the silky blue depths of sleep.

“I’m sorry sir, you’ll have to have a seat and fill out these forms, and then we can get a doctor to see you....

At this point, Yuki began to shake even more violently, bleeding at the mouth and gagging. Kyo was freaking out, and the nurse was yelling for a doctor, but it seemed so faint to Kyo...all he could hear was the ragged breathing of Yuki...

/Please Yuki, please don’t die.../
