CHAPTER 1
----------------------------
Some memories were meant to be forgotten forever, to be suppressed or erased
so that better ones could take their place. But how could anyone forget one of
the most important events of one’s life, even if it was with your enemy? But
what if this memory, this long past event, changed your life forever? So this is
where it begins…
The rays of the sun checkered against the woodland floor, creating an unreal
sensation of clarity. Light was practically blinding the children who jumped and
skipped about, twirling and singing happy little songs of nonsense. Windy gusts
raced with the youths, chasing them and tossing their tresses about them in a
makeshift whirlwind.
Only two children were there, playing contentedly and sharing precious moments
of their youths with one another. The illumination of the sun made everything
seem mystic, or legendary. It was so bright that much of the duller colors faded
into the everlasting glow, and even some vibrant colors died down. One color
stood strong, the blood red tone of a certain little boy’s eyes.
A gaggle of oblivious adults chattered uselessly about problems that only adults
would find as a difficulty. Suddenly a loud slap resonated from the section of
the enchanted forest in which the two lads were playing. A male, who to the
child he approached seemingly had no face and therefore was not important,
jogged over to the red-eyed boy.
“Kyo?” he whispered, “What’s wrong? What happened?”
A heavy sob lurched from Kyo’s vocals, “Yuki slapped me…” he whimpered.
He gasped a little but regained his composure, “Why?” he asked calmly.
“Because I kissed him.” Kyo muttered quickly.
The adult was taken aback by this, but refused to let this issue go unresolved,
like most adults do. “Why did you kiss him, Kyo?” he questioned him.
Now he looked a little taken aback, he didn’t really want to relinquish the
reason but being the trusting babe he was, he told him. “Because I love Yuki,
and that’s the only way I could show him.”
He immediately started to cry again as the man got up and ruffled his hair,
“Ill go talk to him for you.” he assured him.
Though Kyo trusted all the adults who surrounded his life blindly, his curiosity
got the better of him and he followed the man over to the other boy, lagging a
few feet as to be unseen.
Being at a reasonable distance, Kyo recognized the man who had come to his
rescue as one of the people he cared for the most; his guardian Kazuma. The gray
haired man approached the mousy little boy that was sitting on a rock,
whimpering and crying softly.
“Yuki. What’s wrong?” he asked the trembling boy. In the light that sifted
through the trees, Yuki looked as beautiful as he always had. His inky silver
hair had an unrealistic sheen in the sun.
The lad was shocked, as far as Kyo could see through his tear blurred vision,
and stopped quivering as he turned his head slowly to peer at Kazuma who was now
kneeling next to the rock. Yuki’s cobalt eye’s brimmed with tears that clung
to his long lashes.
“I…I…” He stuttered uneasily, not being able to look Kazuma in the eye.
“I slapped Kyo.” He finally revealed. Kyo dithered at the pain in Yuki’s
voice, he wanted nothing more than to go apologize.
Kazuma nodded and asked, “Why did you slap him, Yuki?”
“He kissed me. I don’t really know why I slapped him.” He confessed,
burying his small hands in his silver locks, “But I was afraid. I think I
wanted him to kiss me but Akito…” The mouse cringed at the memory of his
most feared and hated relative.
Kazuma looked a little perturbed by this, “What did Akito tell you?” he
questioned almost commandingly.
Yuki whimpered again and stared at Kazuma with teary, terrified eyes. The man
softened and pat Yuki on the back.
“He told me that I should hate Kyo. That Kyo’s evil and should never be
trusted. I didn’t want to hear what he said, I didn’t! No one loved Kyo as
much as I do!” Yuki blurted and began to sob uncontrollably.
Kazuma sighed and gave Yuki a distant hug, “Listen to me Yuki. Never listen to
what Akito tells you, he’s only trying to hurt you.”
By this time, young Kyo could no longer take the torment of being patient. He
got up from his hiding spot, moisture forming in his red orbs, and ran to Yuki.
He hugged the mouse tightly, “I’m sorry! I wont do it again! Please don’t
cry!” Kyo begged and squeezed Yuki tighter. Yuki hugged him back as they both
sobbed together, Kyo still apologizing, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry…I’m
sorry…”….
