CHAPTER 3

----------------------------

After a very long, very cold shower, Kyo emerged clean and his fires quelled. Again he descended the stairs and found Tohru happily making breakfast in the kitchen. “Good morning Kyo.” She said with a sweet smile that could only be Tohru Honda.

Kyo muttered a good morning and went into the dining room to find Yuki and his older cousin Shigure, owner of the house, sitting at the table.

Both boys met the others gaze, blushing and growling. Shigure chuckled and said, “You two are acting weird, did we have a little confrontation this morning?” he asked in all sarcasm.

Kyo blushed deeper and looked away, ‘There is no way he knows, it’s impossible!’ he thought, panicking as he sat down on the porch after having crossed the room.

“Shut up Shigure, now you’re just being annoying.” Said Yuki abruptly, causing both Shigure and Kyo to look at him with shocked faces. “Now,” the silver haired boy continued, “I have to go on the class field trip tomorrow and I wont be back for 3 days.”

Tohru poked her head around the corner of the portal to the kitchen. “You’re going on the field trip Sohma-kun?” she asked, her eyes imploring.

Yuki sighed and rubbed the place in between his eyebrows, “I have to go; I’m the president. You guys think you’ll be ok without me?” he questioned almost sarcastically.

Shigure was already lost in the tiny world in his head, where his novels were real and he wasn’t a perverted weirdo. Tohru smiled and nodded, “I think we’ll be fine.” She added. But Kyo, Kyo was devastated and it showed on his face. In the past year Kyo had never spent more than one night not in the same house as Yuki, being so close to Yuki had given him comfort, now he didn’t know what to do. He choked in his throat and let out an almost inaudible whine.

Yuki, having sensitive mouse ears, turned his head towards Kyo to witness the most pained and hurt expression he had ever seen the cat have. He contorted his face in confusion as Kyo stared at him with eyes that were becoming moist, almost as if he was…going to cry!

“What the hell…” Yuki had began but was interrupted by Kyo’s holler.

“Good! I don’t have to put up with you for three whole days! Thank the Gods!” The cat bolted his eyes shut and ran into the woods, ashamed that Yuki had seen him looking so weak.

By this time, Yuki was completely baffled. Kyo had been acting stranger than usual, being less angry and sulkier. They hadn’t had a real fight in days; Kyo seemed to have been avoiding him. For some reason, it made Yuki sad, very sad to not have the same attention from Kyo that he used to have.

In all honesty, the rat didn’t want to go on the trip; he wanted to stay there with Kyo. Oddly enough, it was comforting to be around Kyo, someone who he knew since childhood, he even trusted Kyo with his life. Since Kyo had moved in with Shigure and he, he’d been trying to remember a far off emotion. Something he knew very well as a child but was buried deep within his heart. Kyo was the only one who triggered this questioning feeling he had, and the only one to make him aroused.

When Yuki had awoken in Kyo’s arms that morning, he didn’t know why but it turned him on. It was strange, almost foreign but all at the same time it was familiar. He didn’t want to let go, but he was confused and from confusion stems anger. He had violently shoved Kyo away and struck him, but it didn’t feel like the blows he would deliver during a fight. It felt cruel and cheap, but mostly totally unnecessary.

The look on Kyo’s face and the reason he had given Yuki for the embrace wanted to make Yuki cry. It was so malicious of him to be like that. He couldn’t stand to look at Kyo, so he fled.

Now the same hurt look was in Kyo’s eyes. A moist, pained look of shame and befuddlement. So he too fled. Yuki couldn’t quite remember where he had seen that look before when a sudden memory flashed before his sight.

Little Kyo, toddler Kyo, was staring into Yuki with that look. A bright red hand mark branded his face and his lips were swollen. Then all Yuki could remember was running away…

The rat couldn’t quite recall where that scene was from, but he remembered it was something that had a big impact on him. His appetite was soon gone and he left Shigure and Tohru downstairs, going up to his room.

He plopped down on his bad and stared blankly at the wall, trying desperately to think of that feeling. It wasn’t coming to him; all that he could recall from his childhood was the reason for his previous nightmare, Akito. Akito, Akito, Akito; that’s call he could recollect. The memories made his head pound and his heart thump wildly. He became frustrated with the inability to remember that feeling, that emotion that was so long past. He cried, it was too much stress for him, so he cried.
